Dr Monirul Islam with MC of the ball, Catriona Rowntree

Catriona Rowntree has been travelling across the globe as a reporter for the past 19 years, following her passion for meeting new people and seeing new sights. When she is not travelling, she is the wife of a hard-working sheep and wheat farmer and a mother of two toddlers.

Ms Rowntree said she was looking forward to her return to the region, highlighting Mildura’s unique character and “treasured history”.

“I’ve fallen in love with the town of Mildura quite a few times during my course of Getaway,” she said.

On Friday, 24 October 2014, hundreds gathered at the Lucas Foundation Black Tie Ball to raise much needed awareness and money for families who have a sick child and are unable to get treatment in Sunraysia. The funds raised helps to ease the burden of having to relocate for treatment.

The Lucas Excellence Award, which is sponsored by Tristar Medical Group, is awarded to a health professional that makes a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of others in the community.

Dr Monirul Islam attended the event to present the award to the worthy recipient, Karen Tankard. Karen has an extensive background as a Nurse, having worked in the sector since 1982. She currently works at the Mildura Base Hospital in the ICU & Emergency Department, making life easier for those in need. Karen is dedicated, and excels at her job, while proving that the emotional wellbeing of families is crucial to the care and recovery of patients.

Unfortunately Karen was unable to attend the event, but the award was accepted on her behalf by Daniel Tankard.

Tristar were given the inaugural trophy with the names of the winners on it, which will be kept at their Head Office.
